Recycling textiles is natural for me, some purists prefer linen or cotton canvas frames. But there are so many types of fabricsthat it is a shame to throw them away. They can be used to make frames, stretched over a wooden frame, they make an excellent support. They can be worked as is according to their patterns, or be primed, but they remain a very good basis for the creation of unique and original works, and therefore often impossible to copy, the probability of finding the same sample is tiny, good luck to the copyists.
As I come from the graphic design profession and therefore from the printing industry, I really like recycling a fabric doomed to destruction, the rollers which are used to clean the printing cylinders of the offset machines of traditional printing, each length of fabrics will be different and impregnated with different colors which will have been used for different paper productions, posters, flyers, catalogs, business cards, this offers an infinite number of colorimetric ranges of shapes and colors. The problem is that the ink is oily and the fabric must dry several months before being used.
Of course there are other fabrics that I like, leather, cotton, denim, all having their own structure to prepare before being able to use it, some much finer than others which risk tearing or deform when stretched. Their patterns, reliefs, meshes, materials, in the background of the works exhibitable on their own, but I always want to add my touch, my little personal brushstroke in order to fully appropriate the creation.
